Emma Frost is a fun girl to draw… for obvious reasons. But I have more of an appreciation for the devilish character within than her raw sex appeal. Artists commonly like to draw her extremely “enhanced” (but then again what female comic character isn’t). However, I think there is a lot more to her than unrealistic chest proportions. My belief is that Emma is more than just a pin-up girl, and her true character comes from within.
I was playing around with some sketches at DSD last week, and I liked this one enough to clean it up with ink and color. I liked this sketch enough, but didn’t LOVE it. The reason why is that I don’t think I have completely interpreted Emma’s character correctly. I’ll explain more about what I would do differently on my other blog at Art At Joe’s. This probably won’t be the last time you see an Emma Frost drawing around these parts. Enjoy!

Keeping up the theme of zombies, this is a pin up of Apooka The World’s Most Adorable Zombie I did for a limited edition comic earlier this year.
If you have seen me at a comic con or small press show, chances are you are familiar with this character. Apooka was created by twisted mind of Jon Hickey and brought to life through the illustration of Mike Roll. Mike Roll is usually my table-mate at shows where Apooka has been a hot seller! Both books are available through their website.
Isn’t she adorable?

Scratch 9 is a really cool comic written by Rob Worley and drawn by Jason Kruse. It is about a cat who is able to summon the assistance of one of his other nine lives when he gets into a pickle. This fun tale is perfect reading for those that are young in age and young at heart.
I drew up one of my favorite characters, Ichirou. He is a Shaolin cat from 489 A.D. (And as Rob states, he’s hot like wasabi!) Ichi is a fun character to draw, so maybe I’ll have a little more time to kick around a few more Scratch 9 sketches in the near future! If you haven’t checked out this great series, run out to your local comic book store and check it out!
Oh, and if you’d like to see the black and white line drawing of Ichi, you can check out Rob’s blog on Scratch 9′s site.
