You hear the darnest things on late night TV. I wonder how someone with the temper of a wolverine will react to such comments.

Notice Desmond’s baffled mug in the N in “Anthology”! Also notice the O contains Shane and Chris Houghton’s Reed Gunther! For the first time ever, Reed and Desmond are together in one book! Rock on!

Sometimes traveling really gets to you. That is when all of the crazy dreams start to happen.

And there is nothing more disorienting than waking up alone in a strange room after having a bizarre dream, trust me!

There are actually two very subtle tributes in this one. Maybe one day I’ll explain the details (if I ever make the behind-the-scenes-dvd style collection).

I will throw a little extra DVD commentary in here. This strip was continually developing, even making changes as I was drawing it out. I almost considered delaying it a week so I could work out Trish’s look a little better. However, in the end I decided to run with this one. We’ll see how much Trish’s look develops in the future.

I did this strip mainly because I wanted to draw a cool Desmond print for the upcoming comic convention season. I will (hopefully) have the 8×10 that Kaz is talking about for sale at SPACE in April.

Ah, Jerry is back and with a strong opinion for a certain famous Talk Show/Cooking Show host. This will not be the last time you see Jerry fight for his cause. In April, he will be the star of his own mini-comic, where he attempts to stir a revolution to win over a girl’s heart. 2010 may be the year of the carrot! I’ll keep you all posted!

Thanks for those words, Ernie. Macing children is definitely not cool at all. So if you find yourself in a situation with a small child who is instigating a fist fight with you, use words to diffuse the problem… not mace.

I have the Bone saga which collects the entire comic series in one giant volume. Jeff Smith’s story telling ability, timing and amazing line quality always leaves me in awe. He is one of the best pen and ink artists of our times!

I also have Chris Sander’s Sketchbook 2, which includes some spectacular drawings. Chris is a master of line and movement. He really pushes the envelope of structure and proportion in his characters, but keeps them fresh and lively. Plus, Chris draws some of the best pin up girls I have ever seen.

Every illustrator, cartoonist and animator should have Preston Blair’s book Cartoon Animation. This is the bible of drawing movement and characters that look alive. If you are an artist, you need to own this book.

Finally, I always keep the latest Reed Gunther comic at my desk. Shane and Chris Houghton have spun a wonderful tale about a bear-riding cowboy and the crazy adventures they get into. Chris is an amazing artistic talent, and is going to become a household name soon.

I love books. I flip through them all the time and find inspiration from the brilliant illustrations and sketches. If you are interested in these books, you can easily find them anywhere on the web. I’ll post some more books that I frequent in future blogs!

I went black and white this week, because I just put the finishing touches on a three-page B/W Desmond comic that will be included in a S.P.A.C.E. Anthology comic. The color will return next week!
